NATURAL & ORGANIC PRODUCTS EXHIBITION

BRINGING HOME ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVES

Last year's Natural & Organic Products Exhibition took place at Gallagher Estate, Midrand, Johannesburg and was a powerful illustration of the number of South African consumers and businesses that are demanding credible, clear and accurate information and the option of choice presented by the organic and natural industry.

Says Janine Johnston, Exhibition Manager: "Last year's Natural and Organic Products Exhibition proved to be extremely conducive to business development in this industry sector. The participating companies contributed to an impeccable, styled and interactive showcase of the natural and organic industry. What used to be considered choices for "niche" market only has evidently become the optimum choice for most consumers that wish to improve their quality of life and levels of vitality. Industry finally is stepping up to this increased, discerning demand and offering valuable solutions.

In a recent survey by Synovate, which involved respondents from 21 countries, South Africans ranked the most concerned about climate change and its effects. That's a good thing, as South Africans will then also be the most likely to embrace the change as well as encourage it !

In its fourth year and with an anticipated growth from 220 exhibitors in 2006 to 250 in 2007, this year's Exhibition has widened its focus to include environmentally friendly home, garden and textile products and for the first time, will be introducing established international organic exhibitors.

Says David Wolstenholme, Exhibition Director: "Each year, I repeat the fact that the organic industry is the fastest growing industry segment worldwide. In South Africa, the industry is not only driven by "conscious consumers", its being driven by a need for sustainable economic growth and job opportunities. It is imperative that we understand the opportunities and trends that are available both globally and locally and to enter into interactive conversations with the rest of the world."

Positioned as the "green trade and no chemicals" networking hub, the Exhibition provides a consumer and trade information platform and invites industry, consumers, buyers, media and big business to join.

This key feature area is central to the edutainment component of the Natural and Organic Products Exhibition. It's all about content - and this content appeals to all - regardless of race, age and financial means.

The Lifestyle Stage programme includes presentations on the Business of Organics, Organic Trend Forecasts, How the Climate Crisis affects SA business, and Fair Trading South Africa (Friday 12th is the trade focus day).

Consumer Health topics include Natural Solutions for ADHD, Looking at your Labels and Managing Menopause Naturally.

Other topics will focus on sustainability issues, such as Your Carbon Footprint, What About GMO's?; Greening your Home and Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle.

The Environmentally Friendly Fashion Competition culminates in the highlighted showcase, called "No Kak".

Eco-Fashion Shows will also be presented by other companies in the environmental textile field, such as Kalahari Wild Silk, Eco Trend Collection and Hemporium.

Holistic exercise demonstrations showcase The Nia Technique, Tai Chi and Belly Dancing.

"No Kak" Environmentally Friendly Fashion and Home Textile Competition

Following the great success and interest in this project hosted in 2006, the National Cleaner Production Centre, the Royal Danish Embassy and SE Shows & Events will be hosting the Environmentally Friendly Design Competition, The "No Kak" Fashion Show; and this year, we will include an Eco Home Textile category.

We believe that by supporting the growth of the cleaner textile industry, a change will be facilitated in the South African clothing and textile industries. Our motivation is to show that environmentally friendly design is not at all impossible. In fact, this represents opportunities for sustainable job creation and innovative development that will not negatively impact on the environment or human health.

The future of design is environmentally friendly.

    The Organic Wine Garden

This rustic feature area will creatively showcase organic wine producers and allow visitors to unwind in a relaxed setting, while sipping some of the best organic wines to be found!

Organic wine producers are invited to join in creating this experience, by exhibiting within the Organic Wine Garden and hosting wine tasting, while organic "wine by the glass" will be sold through the central wine bar.

    The Conscious Cooking Corner

Because food is medicine; and food is pleasure and one of our very basic needs, The Conscious Cooking Corner will allow participating exhibitors to demonstrate healthy food preparations. This interactive area will run a full programme throughout all show days.

    Love Local

This pavilion will feature local growers and producers of organic and natural product. This area will be designed in conjunction with the Neighbourgoods Market. Part of the "organic ethos" is to support local development and initiatives.
