ANTHEA TORR
Anthea Torr

She is married to Andrew Torr and has 2 children of her own David (15 yrs) and Henry (6 yrs), and 2 step children, Anthony (17 yrs) and Edward (14 yrs).

Anthea lives in Noordhoek, Cape Town, on a small holding where she endeavors to live as lightly on the earth as possible. Hot water is obtained from solar tubes, and a wind turbine to provide electricity is in the process of being erected. She has is a large organic vegetable garden, from which she gets most of her vegetables. She has planted over 100 fruit and nut trees since moving there 6 months ago. Anthea and her youngest son Henry each have a horse and ride most afternoons.

She is a committed vegetarian and firmly believes in non-violence towards the planet and animals. This embraces a lifestyle of eating organic food and if animal products, such as diary and eggs are eaten she will go the extra mile to get organic and free range. She argues that claiming to be an environmentalist without being a vegetarian is a bit like a Catholic saying they don't believe in the Pope! It takes 20 acres to feed a meat eater and one to feed a vegetarian.

Anthea is a passionate environmentalist, and does her best to walk her talk. Her car runs on 100% bio-diesel, a diesel made from the vegetable oil waste from fast food outlets. She has a large tank at home that carries 1000 liters and it is filled up regularly. The emissions of this diesel are negligible. She does her best to keep out of supermarkets as she does not support large scale commercial farming and the waste caused by the excessive packaging.

While Anthea was pregnant with her second child, she read an article on the toxins found in breast milk and it was this that planted the seed and motivated her to investigate further. Appalled by what she found out, and realizing that most people were unaware of the toxins in everyday cleaning and body products, and the dangers of the continual use of these products that have become part of our daily lives; she decided to do something about it. While still living in Johannesburg Anthea met Wendy Lilje, a microbiologist and fellow environmentalist! Wendy had made a small range of non-toxic cleaning products and had them in a few shops. When Anthea found these she contacted Wendy and they discussed expanding the range and getting it out to the masses and so Enchantrix was conceived, but it was only when Anthea moved to Cape Town 4 yrs ago, that she started the business Enchantrix. It is just so happened that Wendy also moved to CT at more or less the same time and bought a bio-dynamic/organic farm in Wellington! And so with the help of her husband and a small dedicated team of fantastic people, Enchantrix was born and is now growing into a solid business built on foundations of uncompromising ethics. If it is harmful to the planet, animals and people and it can be avoided, even if it costs money, it is avoided. The aim behind the concept is provide people with an alternative, allowing them to live their lives completely free of toxic chemicals. This also ties in with her strong adherence and belief of living a life of non-violence. Toxic chemicals are polluting our earth and all who live on her and are an act of violence to all.

While attending a course in London two years ago, Anthea read the UK magazine "The Ecologist" and the idea of Anthea was born in Zimbabwe and went to school there. She went to university in Durban Natal, and obtained a B Comm. degree.

She lived 3 years in the UK working in London, then returned to South Africa and has been here ever since. Anthea spent 21 years in Johannesburg and moved to Cape Town 4 ½ years ago with her family.

While attending a course in London two years ago, Anthea read the UK magazine "The Ecologist" and the idea of "Biophile" came into being, but she wanted to bring information to people that would not just be on environmental issues, but would embrace a holistic ethos. It just so happened that while sitting chatting to the girls in the office at Enchantrix about her idea of starting a magazine, Steve Venter was there discussing an advertisement he had just designed, he heard the chat and said..."I will help you with that, as desk top publishing is what I really want to do!"...and so Biophile came to be, with Steve and Anthea in partnership and a little bit of money left to Anthea by her mother!

There are many "spiritual" people out there who are not environmentalists and many environmentalists and scientific people who are not in touch with the divine unseen forces, to marry the two and to bring into being the realization that we are all interdependent and interconnected is the reason for Biophile. The word "Biophile" is a new one and means... "living in harmony with all natural systems". She is also dedicated, to the best of her ability, to uncover the lies that have led most people to live very limited lives based on fear and a lack of understanding of the true human potential. "We have been led like lambs to the slaughter giving our power away to the greedy unethical people that run our world! Blinded by the veils that they hide behind, we put our lives in the hands of a small minority who control the media, the pharmaceutical companies, the oil companies, most organized religions and the large controlling corporations and of course the puppets that run the governments worldwide. It is time to take back our power and fulfill our true potential".

Biophile is going from strength to strength. It is distributed nationwide through CNA, Exclusive Books and smaller Health Shops and book shops.
